FZR600 Carb Diaphragm Membrane

Post by AeroGunz762 »

I came across this post in the FZR1000 Archives for a cheaper substitute part for the carb diaphragm membrane. Does anyone know if this part would work in a 600? Looks like it to me. Part number is 13507-07D01, off a 93 Suzuki DR650 or GSXR750 with Mikuni Carbs. It's not the complete diaphragm assy, just the membrane/diaphragm/valve - or whatever it's called. Just the soft black rubber piece. All four of my diaphragm membranes are splitting and the entire diaphragm assy is quite pricey seeing that I need 4 of them. I can't seem to find anywhere to buy just the membrane, only the complete assy. So, would this part work in a 1991 FZR600 carb? Or is there anywhere to find just the membrane for the diaphragm assy? Or anywhere to find a reasonable price on four FZR600 diaphragms?

Just found this on ebay, think this would fit?

Here's a comparison of my Carb Diaphragm next to my computer screen showing the ebay listing. On that listing, the carb diaphragm is compatible with almost every late 80's to late 90's models of Suzuki sportbikes including 600's. Being that Suzuki and Yamaha are both Japanese, both use Mikuni Carbs, and that it's compatible with 600cc Suzukis, do you think it would fit/function. Kinda like how German car manufacturers often use some of the same components in their cars? The picture looks dead on:

Well, I went ahead and ordered four of those diaphragms, taking a chance. They came in today and I'm pleased to report they are a PERFECT MATCH :headbang: So, anyone needing diaphragms, as long as the slide piece and retaining ring are good, just the diaphragm itself is worn, order that part number it will fit perfect. I think I paid like $30 for all four including shipping and they got here in 2 days. Saved some big money there :grinnod:

I'm sorry, the part number in my first post is incorrect. The correct number is 13507-17C00. I'm not saying the part number in the first post wouldn't fit too, but this one is the one I ordered so it's a definite go.

That's a great find! And, should definately be handy to members.

Thanks for the research and risk of ordering.

I hope someone else will chime in to post this info to the Wiki

Yep, glad I could contribute something. A little more of an update, the parts actually cost $16 a piece from the ebayer I bought them from. $2 for shipping put me at a total of $66 for the set of four. Still big savings compared to having to replace all four entire assy's, even for used ones on ebay. Another thing, after plugging PN# 13507-17C00 into google, I found out the part has been superceded to the new PN# 13507-17C01 (last number changed from "0" to "1"). Plugged that number into google and found numerous websites selling that part. The cheapest I found was speedzonedirect.com, which has them for $12.59 a piece.

Nice! Did you have any issues with them slipping out of the groove on the carb body? That's an issue I have now and then so I have to be REALLY careful putting the covers back on. It's as if they shrink over time... :swear

I'll update once the carb is back together. Right now, everything is still torn apart as I'm waiting on float valve gaskets and o-rings to come in. So far, I've only reassembled the slide assy's with the new diaphragms on:

Do you mean the diaphragms shrink over time? If so, I can corroborate that for you! Funny you mention that, because I said the same thing when I got these in the mail and compared them to my old diaphragms. Mind you, I've never worked on a carb before, never even knew what a diaphragm was, well this kind anyways LOL. Comparing the new ones to the old ones, they are absolutely identical in every way. However, when I stacked the new one inside the old one (like stacking cups) it created a slight bulge because the new one is just a hair, I'm talking a HAIR larger than the old one. It's as if the diaphragm shrinks by about 0.25mm or so in bowl circumference over time. It's not a measurable difference, it's only noticeable when you stack them. It's so minuscule that I knew it couldn't be a manufacturing difference or a wrong part, I could only guess that they shrink ever so slightly over time!

Here's another pic of the new diaphragm slide assy sitting in the cover, just to give you another view:

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. What happens is that when you put the slide / diaphragm in and try to seat the lip of the diaphragm into the groove on the carb body, it will invariably slip out of the groove as you start tightening down the diaphragm cover. The crappy part is that it's really hard to notice. Ugh...

Great find though. This can potentially solve a lot of headaches.

Well, a quick final update on the diaphragms... they WORK. Got carbs back together last night, rode about 100 miles today.. bike runs like a champ, MUCH better than before. Again, that's PN# 13507-17C00 or 13507-17C01.
