Wierd Shimmy at 55mph

Post by DJStaticX »

This is driving me nuts banghead I adjusted my chain recently and I now have a shimmy effect but it seems to only happen at 55mph in the handlebars if I let go they shake a little. Under 55 just fine and smooth and over 55 is fine , 65 , 75, 85, 95 ...all fine and no shimmy. My front tire was low on air and I'm wondering if I messed up the front tire by riding on it with low air. I ran my hand over it and it doesn't feel coned or weird in any way. I went back and measured each side of the swingarm and they are so close I'm not sure I could get it any closer.

I've checked about everything I can think of and I never had this before. I even checked to see if maybe a balance weight had fell off the front tire and I seen no signs of that at this time. I'm really :headscratch: right now !!

I'd check the torque on the axle but I'm inclined to think a wheel is out of balance. Have you lost any wheel weights?
ones life is the way it is only because you allow it make it happen.

Well I don't see where any are missing but I only see 1 on the front and I have like 4 on the back. I might have to take it off and see if it is out of balance. I just don't understand why only at 55mph.

Well it was something that just popped into my head but after closer inspection in the light my front tire is warped a bit and probably from riding on low air pressure. Which is something I try to keep a eye on but slacked. So now I gotta buy a new front tire after I just bought these last yr and they still looked brand new. I have a 110/70 17 on it shinko and good thing they aren't expensive tires. :whistle

Hi,
If the front runs out of true, then the tyre is not seated properly (as you ran it on low pressure it has folded under the rim going round abend probably )

You need to raise the front tyre off the ground and OVER inflate the tyre just as they do when fitting a new tyre to get it to seat properly on the rim.

Do not ask how i found that out , Y-Geo stop laughing OK
