Cross threaded spark plug threads

Post by thefreeauction »

I was looking to buy a 93 FZR600 and the guy says it needs one of the spark plug threads heli-coiled. Is this easy to get to and fix? I've heli-coiled stuff before, but I don't know how hard it would be on this bike.... Or is this gonna set me up with other problems down the road? Or maybe I should I just walk away.....

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ok. I shoulda searched a little better first!

If I decide to buy it I'll end up doing what this thread says. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9417&p=83827&hilit= ... oss#p83827. This issue should be a good "price dropper" bargaining tool if I end up buying it.

Dan,
depends on the asking price to start with the amount of work involved is considerable so that is a good bargaining point .

The work involved on this bike is quite a bit as you will have to at least drop the rad if not drain the coolant system and remove the rad completely just to get to the cylinder head.It would be FAR safer to remove the head which means at least dropping the engine forward and down (allowing it to pivot at the rear.) You will need to have a spare gasket set to hand when re-building .
I hope you have good tools to hand and a spare weekend to do this.
