Cali model FZR vs regular model differences?
so as some of you already know..I picked up my engine today, and it came with a vance and hines steel starter gear cover, 4 - 1 exhaust w/ yosh pipe, the full wire harness, all electrical components, carbs, and some fiberglass fairings(all for $260). I noticed that the TCI is different than mine. The parts I picked up today seem to be from a cali model. The TCI (igniter) has the 6 pin plug with rounded sides, instead of the 6 pin rectangular plug on my models TCI. I was wondering which parts (if not all but TCI) are interchangeable. The wiring diagram shows a servo motor that I can't seem to find on my cali wire harness. My Celica is Cali model and it get's irritating since I'm in Hawaii and junkyards don't have a lot of Cali model parts, plus I have extra parts on it that I don't like the idea of. I don't want headaches and hard-to-find parts on an old motorcycle.

The servo was probably removed by the PO when he swapped out the exhaust system. Look for a medium-large white nylon connector, cylindrical in shape - that's your EXUP servo connector.
The rounded connector on the TCI is for the servo signals; the 13-pin connector beside it is for the rest of the bike (handled by the 8-pin and 6-pin connector on the regular TCI).

So it sounds like I can run it without the servo right? Are there any problems that I will experience running it like that?

I yanked all of the Cali stuff of my engine and it ran really well - of course, it also had a jet kit. Make sure that you pull the exup valve out of the exhaust.

Re: Cali model FZR vs regular model differences?
I'm focusing on the engine/carbs. The photo aint to good but, The carbs dont look like Cali carbs which have extra vents that connect to god knows where Just plug them if present. See the Photo below (thanks darrin)
Cali heads also have a small tube coming out of each exhaust port that connect to an emission control system. Basically fresh air is sucked/pulsed in to the exhaust headers VIA a reed valve system to reduce yeah ya got it emissions. If your newly purchased engine has that stuff get rid and cap the tubes, if not your good to go. One more thing the Cali TCI has a different curve (Ignition advance) again to reduce emission, it also has an effect on performance. If you can use a none Cali TCI do it.
HTH
BTW what a score

The newly purchased engine has the tubes by the exhaust ports on the head, I noticed them when I was putting the engine in. They've been cut and pinch-folded shut. I put the engine in today, swapped the engine covers, and did most of the wire harness and the fairings. Still have some finishing up to do before it runs. The aftermarket exhaust has the ridiculously annoying bracket that was in the way and wasted an hour of the engine swap because it took me that long to realize I should take the exhaust off. Exhaust runners are larger though, so I'm going with the new exhaust setup. I measured it while it was off, 1mm - 2mm larger, can't tell because of rust, but it is definitely larger!
I have two igniters, so I will probably pop the pins out of each plug and switch them over to what the non-cali igniter requires.

Great news, I just noticed the crap 4 pin VR on that harness. I take it your smart enough not to use it? I.E. that POS belongs in the bin
Good luck my friend

Re: Cali model FZR vs regular model differences?
haha..good eye. The regulator actually still works. I have two of the yzf600r regulators on the side right now. Since everything still works on this bike I'm going to put everything together and crank it up first before I make any changes. Do you want the reg??lol. My turn signals aren't wired in right now. I have modified left switches for YZF600 controls that look newer, and in order for that to work I have to take off the stock turn signal relay and wire in the one from my old harness. The right side switches I have but I pulled those off when I pulled off my YZF600 carbs, so it's mis-matched now, has been for a while.

Yeah send me that VR and a gun so I can shoot it, we arnt allowed guns in England

Re: Cali model FZR vs regular model differences?
..well..I wouldn't send my gun to you anyway. Lol..I enjoy it too much. Shoot it..hmm..that sounds fun. My printer died a month ago and I kept pondering how much fun it would be to take it out somewhere and shoot it. Unfortunately the only places I can shoot here are at a range and they don't allow printerslamer wrote:Yeah send me that VR and a gun so I can shoot it, we arnt allowed guns in England

and I actually heard that in France most of the officers don't even carry guns, there are few that do. Is the same true for England?lamer wrote:Yeah send me that VR and a gun so I can shoot it, we arnt allowed guns in England

France?
I heard a rumour that the only German words they know is "I surrender" (twice). Italy is a different kettle of fish their moto is "switch sides" and the Spanish love glass bottomed boats, so they can admire their navy. Of course thats only rumours tho

Re: Cali model FZR vs regular model differences?
The pins in the Cali 13-pin connectors and those in the 8-pin and 6-pin connectors on the non-Cali TCI are different sizes. I made an adaptor harness for Engineerol (over on the Archives) that he is quite happy with, but I have had the WORST time trying to find a reliable source for the plugs. You may have to get the 8- and 6-pin connectors, make a short pigtail of each, then hard-splice in to the harness.match417 wrote:I have two igniters, so I will probably pop the pins out of each plug and switch them over to what the non-cali igniter requires.
As for LEOs and toys, my understanding is that the number of armed units in Britain has increased 5- or 10-fold since handguns were banned 'to make society safer.'

Re: Cali model FZR vs regular model differences?
i was thinking about just popping the pins out of the Cali harness plug and putting them into the plug for the non-cali harness, swapping color for color on the wires. I haven't looked at the cali igniter close enough to see if it also has the wide pins like the non-cali igniter does. I'll do this after it's running. I have two non-cali igniters also so I would really like to let go of the cali one. Since it's kinda hard to come by maybe I can get a decent chunk of bills for it on ebay.

Re: Cali model FZR vs regular model differences?
Try that again - the pins are DIFFERENT SIZES. The smaller Cali female pins won't lock in the non-Cali plug, and they won't fit over the male .250" pins of the ignitor.
