Here's photos of my tach with the 680 ohm resistor. The position of the variable resistor (fine tuning screw) on mine wont help you though.

You need an external tachometer to recalibrate your tach.

Could anyone tell me the proper resistance of the big blue one that's just under the resistor in the pics you guys talked about? Or should I somehow read that out from the resistor?

I think that's the resistor that burned in my tacho, big black burn-stain just under it, though the other resistor you talked about is nice and full black (though shows 678 ohm resistance)

looks like a 51 ohm 5 watt resistor with 5% tolerance. maybe someone else can verify what i said.

looks like a 51 ohm 5 watt resistor with 5% tolerance. maybe someone else can verify what i said.

It could be that the varience is just compensating for each individual Tach on their test bench

It's not too difficult, Yellow Violet Black Gold = 47 ohms 5%

I must add the Variable Resistor marked VR 1 on the board is prolly for calibration, as mentioned earlier use an "external tachometer to recalibrate your tach"

I do believe that he is looking at the image of your tach, Mal, with the blue resistor.
