need help, Still no Torque
Here is a recap, while riding one day I lost torque the bike slowed down to a crawl. So one of my fellow fzr riders suggested that I should check or change the friction plates… I changed the Kevlar Friction Plates along with the steel plates and springs… I torque them to the specs as stated in the OM… I attempted to crank the bike but before I did I notice that the clutch was not tight, so I pulled it and there was no resistance. I checked the drive cover area and notice the clutch release mechanism was missing the spring. So today I found a spring just laying around the house, I was going to use it temporary until the clutch cable and spring was delivered. I put the spring on, and there was no free play at all, I just wanted to see if it was the spring that cause to bike not to have torque … So when I started the bike and put it in gear still no torque… I just wanted to know could it be that the spring is not the right size being that im just using it just the test the bike until my parts come in or could it be the whole clutch release mechanism or could it be the clutch push rod, that’s that causing the bike not to have torque...? Any help will be greatly appreciated…

Re: need help, Still no Torque
Is the pressure plate properly aligned? Yamaha is infamous for this. The pressure plate goes on 5 ways, only one of which actually clamps the plates. There is a triangle and a dot on the pressure plate and hub; I forget which has which, but they have to be lined up.
Also, did you check the condition of your steels? Are they blued, warped, yucky?
Have you adjusted the throwout mechanism at the sprocket cover? The return spring you're missing is more to ensure no residual pressure is applied to the push rods due to a sticky cable or lever, resulting in eventual wear / welding of the push rods and ball. It won't affect the immediate function of the clutch.

Like don said, the throwout mechanism adjustment is crucial.

Well at least i know its not the Clutch Release Mech, I went out and played around with it...DonTZ125 wrote:Is the pressure plate properly aligned? Yamaha is infamous for this. I really didnt pay attention as to what direction or ball or triangle lined up, i just made sure that friction plate, steel plate and so on was inserted in that order... The toturial that i viewed really didnt go into detail about lining anything up, but then again i didnt watch any youtube videos about with them using a FZR... And like you stated I guess yahama are particular about how the plates are inserted... Well im about the drain the oil again and play with the plates hopefully i can figured this thing out... Thanks you guys and i will keep you all posted...

Re: need help, Still no Torque
Don't worry about draining the oil - just lean it on the sidestand, and you'll only have a little drool out. Put a drip pan or something underneath, obviously.

It's NOT the plates that need critical alignment...
JUST the pressure plate(the aluminum piece that goes on last and on which the springs seat).
IT and the inner clutch hub have to be aligned..this is where the 'dot' and the 'triangle' have to line up(ONE correct way out of five possible).
You will know that it isn't right if there is ANY space between the pressure plate and the last fiber clutch plate when the spring bolts are tightened and the throwout mechanism is OFF the bike/backed ALL THE WAY loose. MAKE SURE you do that(loosen/remove the throwout unit), because adjusting that to the pressure plate that is not aligned properly, then installing the pressure plate right will cause your pushrod to be extremely tight/under load.....and quite likely snap your cable if the lever is pulled.

Well here is what is going on with now... Like you all stated the preasure plates and the hub was not align... So when i attempted to start the bike, I forgot to put it in N, so it jumped a little bit, but i quickly turned the bike off... But before I aligned the pressure plate i had nothing... But when i put it in N to start it, and went to 1st gear still no movement....
I didnt losin the 12mm nut and screw under the sprocket cover as stated by reelrazor, because i didnt get his post until i was finish... But I attempt to adjust that nut and screw... It that doesnt work what else should i check to see why no torque... As stated before the bike seem normal when i was about to start i in 1st gear because it jump... Before I aligned the pressure plate it would do nothing when i attempted to start the bike in 1st gear... Looking forward your replies...
