I think we'll have to agree to disagree there. The airbox for the FZR simply fits within the frame and under the tank cover. If they had equal length passages running to each stack, then maybe I'd agree, but it is simply an open space for the stacks to do their job. Remember, the FZR carbs are not intended for any ram air system, like the YZF carbs are, so the FZR carbs rely solely on the vacuum created by the pistons. At least, that is my understanding.

Fair enough. The discussion has prompted me to consider the option a bit more. Now that you mention the YZF carbs though, I have to wonder if it may be not be as good of an idea (I've got a T-Cat motor). It sure would make life a lot easier to not have to "square peg / round hole" the YZF airbox into the 400 frame.

Thanks for the discussion fellas!

The thought has gone through my head a few times that - especially as I begin to consider again the physical ramifications of an EFI add-on - perhaps a 125GP-style airbox might be the ticket. This is basically a 'big' (relatively speaking - these ARE 125s...) fibreglass tub in which the carb resides; the tank itself is the top of the airbox, with the fuel hose and petcock dropping down to the carb. Compression foam sealing things up. Add a tuned inlet at the front, and you're off to the races.
