Shifting speeds???

Post by r0bertt »

I have a stock 93 FZR 600, I just got it ready the road... My Tachometer is broke, I was just wondering at what speeds do I shift... I know first gear is about 10-15... what about the other gears... I checked out the other threads on the site for similar questions and I only found info on first gear. Someone suggested the owners manual, but I have the service manual, and I didn't see anything about shifting speeds in there... :tks:

2nd gear 15mph- ??
3rd gear ??-??
4th gear ??-??
5th gear ??-??
Finally got her up and running...

Mine is messed up and shows 10k when I am going along at 50 MPH. I shift by sound.

You should be able to go by hearing and feeling of the bike's power. If it's bogging down, then down shift. If the motor's screaming, it might be time to up shift.

Not sure. I just shift as needed. It depends on how hard I get on it.

shifting speeds vary by circumstances. if you are getting on it and revving it high, you will obviously be going faster whn you shift. if you are cruising around, you will be going slower. feel the engine, you can tell when you are over-revving it, and can tell when you shifted too early. for normal street riding, you should be able to get around without any trouble without a tach.
I did that.

Thanks a lot for the replies, I been shifting by sound, but wasn't really sure if I was shifting to early... I didn't have any crazy noises or anything like that... I just wanted to make sure I was shifting at the right time... I guess I was shifting right... And I'm gonna try checking the fuse as well... Thanks again...

For reference I usually run 4th gear while cruising through town at 45 and stay there until 55.

This is about how I run as well.

5th is 55-65ish and then 6th for over 70. But I have a little sputtering around 4-5k so I tend to run mine at a little higher RPMS.

It depends on acceleration also. I shift to 2nd anywhere from 10-50mph.
