1990 FZR 600 will not shift into first.

My 1990 FZR 600 runs and idles strong. It has fresh oil put in and starts up every time in neutral.

Once I try to put it into first it dies out. I tried keeping the rpms high and kicking it into first, but still nothing. Any information on a possible diagnosis would be great.

Is your kickstand up?

We tried it with it up and down.

Sounds like the kickstand switch might be shot. I would certainly put a tester on it.... or bypass it.

Should just unplug the kickstand switch connector and bridge the gap (tie the wires together) on the connector coming from the motorcycle's control box.
