Picture Request

Post by Malakai »

Hey Gents, I have a quick request for help. I was hoping someone with a 91 or similar fzr600 could take a close-up picture of the wires going into the digital iginitor. I have a bike that had the plug removed from the wiring harness and I would like to make sure that I get the wires back in the right spots. I have checked it wiring diagram and the correct wires are there but I really need a picture or a pin out to make sure they are going to the right spot. Thanks

Non-Cali:

[W/R W/B XX XX] [R/B L/Y Gy]
[XX Gy XX XX] [B B/L O]

Thanks. That is the same as the 90 but the digital ignitor I have has a lot more connections that that on the left connector.

Are you sure this is for a non-Cali 600? They have 3 wires going to an 8-pin rectangular connector and 6 wires to a 6-pin rectangular connector.

The 89-90 Cali has the connectors as above plus 5 wires going to a round 6-pin flying connector.

The 91+ Cali has 9 wires going to a 13-pin rectangular connector (the 9 wires mentioned above), plus 5 wires going to a 6-pin 'rounded rectangle' fixed connector for the EXUP. Is this what you have?

91+ Cali:
Gy..XX..R/B..[ ]....Gy...B/L.XX
O...XX.. B...W/R..W/B..L/Y.XX

Wire colours are looking into the TCI connector. The left Grey wire goes to the 2-3 coil; the right Grey wire goes to the tach.

Well I have a non cali model. The new digital ignitor seems to be the 91+ cali model. It has a 6 pin connector and an 13 pin rectangular connector. So the question now is can I make this work?

Well, I fabbed up an adaptor harness to allow a fellow to use a non-cali TCI with a cali bike, but he was converting everything to 49-state specs - cams, pipes, carbs.

If you're just replacing a failed TCI and you have a 49-state bike, I think you'd be better off finding a 49-state TCI.

Do you still have the failed 49-state TCI? Send it to me, and I'll take a look at it. Depending on the damage, I might be able to repair it.

Well that just sucks. I have followed the service manual to the letter on checking all the components. All test good. or in spec. last thing the book says is that if everything else checks out replace the TCI. The bike will crank but no fire. I have fuel and spark and compression. The mechanical timing is in time with the timing marks. So now it seems that I have a new tci for a 91+ cali bike and a broken one from a 90 non cali bike.

If you have spark, the TCI is working.

From whom did you get the Cali TCI? I saw your inquiry to ThatKid; if you bought from him, perhaps he'd exchange for a non-Cali box?

I actually got this one on fleabay. It was new in box. I had spark with the old TCI but when reading the service manual it was step by step. I will go through and check everything again and try to see if we missed something the first 2 times.

A thought occurred to me last night - make sure the TCI leads are actually going to the right coils, and the right spark leads to the proper plugs!
