Starter clutch Cover replacment help needed

Post by fizzer6hundred »

Hi all Fizzer heads!

Starting to pick up the pieces after my son in laws crash (he is fine). My starter clutch "peanut" "comma" cover was shattered. I found what is a good source for new improved parts posted in the "wanted to buy" section. I had trouble getting the cover off and found the reason. The alignment pin on top was a bit fused. In any event I have two questions on my pending repair and was hoping you guys can help out. I do have both the Haynes and factory repair manuals but the info I seek is not in there.

Questions:

1. I found a place for new gaskets and cover like I said but need the soft metal alignment pin for the upper part of the cover. I doubt I will find a NOS pin and presume I will have to fabricate but need to ask since maybe some one has already done this.

2. I have not received my new cover but sure it will not have the bearing pressed in. Therefore I will need to pull the bearing out of the damaged cover. How to I remove and get this bearing out without damage to the bearing?

Thanks for reading!

1. There are two dowel pins, 99510-08016-00 superceded by 91808-16023-00, MSRP $1.48 at the local stealership.

2. You probably won't; heating up the cover enough to drop out the bearing can damage the bearing. You might get lucky, and the cover will come with a bearing.

If not, or if the bearing is suspect, go to a local bearing house and ask for a 6200 bearing, no seals, gaskets or shields. Should run you about $4. If all they have is 6200-2RS with the seals on both sides, don't worry about it - they pop right out with a dental pick. See this thread over on the Archives for info on swapping / installing bearings - http://www.fzrarchives.com/ipb/index.ph ... opic=44444

Don your the man! Let me try to make sure I understand what you have said.

1. You obviously have access to fiche and can find the dowel pins. Can I go to my local Yamaha shop and ask for either 99510-08016-00 or the superceded 91808-16023-00 parts? It sounds like yes but they may only have the newer superceded parts.

2. Not sure Phoenix Az has a bearing shop but will look. I assume this part NSR250 number has the correct O.D. and I.D. right?

Thanks Don for your help!

1. They'll probably only have the newer parts. You should be able to ask for either, but if the kid behind the desk is particularly dense it'll probably be quicker to ask for the new part number 91808-16023-00.

2. There are bearing shops in Phoenix, I guarantee it. Not sure what you meant by 'NSR250' p/n - you want to ask for a 6200 bearing. That is a standard 10x30x9mm bearing, and means the same thing in every bearing house the world over.
