Did some tuning up on my bike yesterday ( sync and new plugs ).....found that my carb boots are letting in some air right at the top where the carbs join them. My clamps are adjusted all the way tight now but it still seeps just a bit. Confirmed they are not cracked and they do not leak from the bottom since it only changes rev's when I spray the carb boots right at the top.
The stock clamps are junk. Anyone know of any better ones we can use or maybe some aftermarket ones?
Better Carb Boot clamps?

Re: Better Carb Boot clamps?
Jax,
I don't think the stock clamps are junk but they may not be working. The clamps on my FZR600 have a small spacer that prevents the clamp from over compressing the rubber. The spacer is like a small tube that limits how close together the tabs on the clamp can go. Sorry, no picture. If your clamps have this spacer in them, you could remove the spacer. I would take them out and file them a little shorter, then put them back on. The function of the spacer is so that you can get the screw tight but not crush the rubber. Without the spacer you may not be able to get the screw tight enough to stay tight and you might cut through the rubber.
Take a look at yours and see what you have.

Re: Better Carb Boot clamps?
Hi,
my first thought is that the boot is being "deformed" by being overly tight, If that & Rotors solution do not work try a LITTLE wipe of silicon glue on the lip of the carb. I do mean VERY little as you do not want a thread of silicon getting into carb orifice

Re: Better Carb Boot clamps?
I just looked and mine do not have the spacer you guys were mentioning. I guess I will have to pull the carbs out this coming weekend. make sure they are not cracked or broken underneath the stock clamp and try to seal them back up. Will probably do what George suggested just as a good meaure.
Thanks for the info.
