Finally going to repair my bike

Post by match417 »

Hey guys, it's been a while since i've been on here. Somehow my timing chain jumped, not sure how, maybe my tensioner is bad, I don't know. Either way I'll be pulling the valve cover off, taking off the tensioner and setting the timing back to normal. Probably next week when I have time..and then my bike will have time!..lol..cheesy joke I know..either way, I'm sure I can figure it out. But does anyone have a walkthrough on this? My friend still has my repair manual. Where are the timing marks on the flywheel/camshaft and how tight am I supposed to tighten the tensioner?

Match,

You should get the repair manual back for this. It would take too many words to tell you how. The short version (I think you already know) is to remove the cams enough to reset the timing. It is important to find out why timing changed. It may be that the chain guide or the tensioner is screwed up and all you have to do is fix the tensioner. Good luck.

Match,
timing chains do wear and so do the timing sprockets they run on check for busted teeth (and their residue.

Chain tensioner bars wear as well and the springs do go bad (the latter not too often) be sure to check the details on this process very carefully mistakes can cost you a small fortune !!!!

Since you're a Donating Member - go to the Donating Members forum, get the eManual for the 600 [Chap 4, Part 2 (Page 78)].

The eManual is not as good as the printed manual, so it would be difficult to use, but it will give you the procedures at least.

It wouldn't piss anyone off. We just don't want copyrighted material in public view, so we restrict it here. If you have a location with unrestricted access, then by all means post it.

The problem is that we don't want to associate the site with possible copyrighted material in public view.

You can always PM me the link and I can put it in the non-Public "Donating Members" section.
