P.S. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to put a photo into a post on this forum. All I get when I try is some square brackets and IMG?
hi did the shock conversion 2years ago. well worth the time, went to blacks southport for dog bones and had a root through there hundreds of boxes found some smaller ones that gave the ride hight i was after, only 10 quid a pair, hope all gose well
I wanted to give it a couple of riding weeks before reporting back after completing the conversion which was pain free and went without a hitch. Many thanks to the pioneers that have documented their own conversions here; it made it so much easier.
First off I took the rake angle before and after. I was surprised that the rake angle was the same before and after although the inclinometer I used was only accurate to + - 0.25 of a degree and other things such as how level was the floor and the position of the bike may have played a factor. I got a reading of 25 degrees which is the quoted stock Yamaha rake angle.
The dog bones I fitted are really for a jack up kit (+25mm) for the Fazer 1000cc ’95 (UK Spec.) onwards at 139mm long. This lowered the back end 5mm by my measurements.
Was it worth it..... yes. The back end does not feel as harsh or bouncy (old shock was not leaking) as before though there is no wallowing in corners or bottoming out although it feels softer. This is with the stock R6 settings, I’ve yet to play with the preload, compression and rebound, when the better weather comes and I've more time I'll try tuning it to my riding style.
