Engine Operating Temp

Post by Ickis »

So I did some carb work today. Replaced a needle (previous one was bent and I bent it back until I got a replacement) and a ?float bucket?. Anyway, I noticed while at highway speeds (60-65mph) my FZR is running around 172-176 degrees Fahrenheit. It was running around 160-165 previously. Also, if sitting at a stop the temp drops very quickly down to 150 and sometime below now, where before it didn't. So after doing a search, I couldn't find an actual operating temp. And seeing as how I've got a Vapor, it's displayed in degrees and not as a gauge. Anyone know the actual operating temp?

hi,
There is no actual correct operating temp as such. The reason for this is altitude, temperature & atmospheric pressure and the effects these have on your engines capability to burn fuel.

If you are worried that you are running too lean (raising the exhaust temperature and by contact the engine blocks temp) check the heat spread of your down pipes & the condition/colour of your spark plugs.

What temp is your coolant ?
Is your thermostat cutting in at the right temperature ? (that info is in the Manual)
Is your oil excessively hot & thin ?

could just be the cold weather too. after doing your carb work the engine might just be running properly now causing your issues.
