When is it time to adjust your valves?

Post by jax »

Hi all,

My bike is going on about maybe 12K since the last adjustment. I am having to give it alot of choke to get it started when its cold. Runs like crap until warmed but once warmed runs good. is this a sign that I need to check my valve clearances and possibly do a adjustment?

Could be, the service interval is like 24K miles, but that doesnt mean it wont need it early

Right on. I'm going to go ahead and take some measurements to see if they are out of spec. I'll report back with my numbers. Thanks.

Total miles is right at 65K

Engine got new rings and new valve stem seals and valve lapping at about 55K...........due to a stripped spark plug hole.

They were checked and found in spec at that time. I also wrote down all the shim numbers so I can have them for reference for next valve adjustment.

Yeah. Just for peace sakes I am going to measure them again. if all is within spec then I know I need to mess with the carb setting and maybe get a sync done.
