bottom end noise with clutch released?
I just picked up a 1995 FZR 600. It has 18k miles on it. When I start it up, it runs and idles great. But, reguardless of the gear its in or neutral, when I release the clutch it has a bad noise from the bottom end. Like a can of marbles. The noise goes away when I pull the clutch lever. I have removed the right side cover and checked the clutch basket, plates and bearings. All look good. Any ideas on where to check next or has anyone ran across this in the past?

I don't know how related this is but I always had what I called a gravel noise. It's gone now that I changed my chain and sprockets. But you mentioned that you hear it in neutral too.

hi,
this is very subjective, all FZR tranny's are noisey period. whether yours is worse???????????
If you have checked the clutch bearings for play and you are satisfied then it could be that the basket is worn and the steels & corks are rattling because of the wear.
This wear usually shows up as notches (ever so slight to down right castelation) in the fingers of the clutch basket.
if the notches are minor I will remove the basket & gentle file them out. This does not make the noise go away but will stop the clutch from malfunctioning on rainy dark night.

Thanks for the reply guys. Its the clutch basket and bearing. With them removed completly the noise is gone. Now if I can find a PDF version of the repair manual that would be great.

Re: bottom end noise with clutch released?
when you have replaced the bearing DO NOT expect a silent transmission, on FZR's it is extremely unlikely
