quater mile time

Post by 89fzr884 »

Well I have an 89 fzr600 with a full micron exhaust, I was going to go to the track with some friends and I just have to have a leather jacket helmet and gloves if I run a 12 or over, otherwise u have to have leather pants to. Does anyone know what the bike will run with the full exhauts.

Thankyou

Billy

I don't think you have to worry about it. Are you used to running "drag"?

I would bet on mid 12 - 14s...

my first and last time with the fzr(made a lot of passes in my car and pickup) at bandimere i ran around a 14, if i knew what i was doing or had a two step or wheelie bars, probably could've gotten a 13.0 easy, take away the high altitude and that'd probably be a 12.0. Since its your first time you'll probably be 13-12, just try not to flip over backwards or kill it off the line(guilty)

You have a 45 hp difference there.

One thing you can do is sacrifice top speed and go with a quick acceleration kit: 520 chain and something like a 14 tooth front and 49 tooth rear sprocket set. That's what I ran at Track Days and it made a world of difference. I knew my top speed wouldn't be over 130 mph AND I knew that I wanted the bike to pull harder out of the corners - worked like a charm.

the going theory with cars at least is every 10 hp= .1 and every 100 lbs in weight reduction is .1 however i would be impressed if the fzr could run 11.50 i know i couldn't do it.

Practice your starts. Practice, practice, practice. You can do that down an empty road somewhere. You only need to get up to 35 mph.

After the start, the rest is a breeze - just tuck tight and shift smoothly, but quickly.

Well I went last night and my best run was a 12.68 at 112 mph. I really want to get it below the 12s just something like 11.9 or 11.8. I am going to go down 2 teeth on the front sprocket and see what that does, is there anything else I can do to lower my times a little.

Thankyou

I was suppose to go to the track tonight but got called into work. I bought a 520 14/49 kit. And I wanted before and after times.

you could try strapping the front end down so it won't wheelie so easily so you could launch harder

A ratchet strap that goes from each handle bar and through 2 spokes of the wheel? :headscratch: j/k
