front wheel bearing help

I'm going to do my front wheel bearing in a couple of weeks, I suspect I damaged mine when I swapped the front end. Any tips from our wrenches? On a car it's pretty easy of course, on the bike it looks like you just need to remove the rotors but do they pop out from then? Mine bike has seen some pretty rough conditions so it's probably time anyway. 94fzr600

Ok sizes are in the WIKI with code numbers (see big axle mod ) try to get the 2 rubber shields version ( ADD -2RS to the code number as an extension)
That way the crap stays out longer.

Removal Hmm some will just slide out others need an alloy or brass punch / drift to tap them out. If that fails you need to heat the bearing boss of the wheel ( be careful with the heat source it can damage paint / set grease alight and I even know of a dude catching his tyre alight )

Put your new bearings in the fridge in their plastic bag overnight , gives them a better chance to slide in without the aid of a drift & hammer !!!!!

Thanks George, I went with this kit ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-F ... 3a5223024a ) . Just going with stock for now. The fridge idea sounds like a winner, hopefully mine will slide out but if not I have a neighbor with an inviable tool collection that surpasses my shade tree collection.

The other thing to remember is that if you do find the need to tap them with something, make sure you only hit the steel, outside edge of the bearing.

An easy way to do this is to use a socket that is the same diameter as the bearing. Lay it on top of the bearing and gently tap on it with a rubber mallet. This will also help you get the bearing in without cocking it at all.

Good price & they supply seals as well . I use the -2RS version & seals which most will argue is a waste of money but then again I have never had a wheel bearing fail.

yea i bought the same brand for front rear and sprocket carrier seem well made and are sealed units fronts went in no prob i use a brass drift to install goo

to remove it... simple trick i used to do before getting a bearing puller is get a thick lag bolt that basicly fits the bearing hole, slice that down themiddle about 1/2 way, run a long flat head screw drive in there while it is int he bearing... pop it wiht a hammer. it will expand and pull that sucker out! works great!

The bearings are long since in and doing nicely, Georges fridge trick made putting them in easy and I removed them by putting a rod or long bolt (don't remember) through one and hammered the edges on the other end
