FZR manuals

Never bought one! I've been using a .pdf one on my phone & now that I got the motor out & am about to start transmission work I was curious for as to feedback from those who have used the different available repair manuals. I normally like to purchase the Manufacturer released manuals for the specific model. But am open at this point.

The factory one will be the most accurate, but I like the pictures in the Clymer manual as they seem to be a little more clear. Either way they both will be a little misleading at times. For example, they might say to remove an item but won't tell you were all the bolts are that hold it in place (crank case is a prime example as they both miss one bolt and it happens to be different bolts they miss). If you can get both, do it. If not, go with the factory.

The two most readily available are Clymer & Haynes manuals if you can lay your hands on aYamaha original you are real lucky as thay are not supposed to go to anyone except yamaha service / dealers

All of them have mistakes in yup even the factory ones.

There seems to be a lack of will by owners to buy a copy of the manuals and a LOT of owners expect the internet and groups like this one to supply them for free, might I suggest you buy a copy for your model and then scan it and post it here aand help out your fellow FZR riders.

MachineGun this is NOT a personal pop at you but I have noticed a trend of late whineing about lack of manuals here on the site and since I bought the last Clymer manual to be copied to the web I suggest some one else takes the hint and help out "the cause"

That must be a UK thing Geo. All the factory manuals I have I've purchased from my local dealership.

HMM. yamaha insisted with us NOT to sell manuals or even copy them for others when I ran our service center and last time I asked the new owner he quoted Yamaha at me as well so...............

I have tried tapping up the UK dealers and I get the same answer ...VERY ODD

The UK block exemption regs mean dealers now HAVE to sell specialist service material, tools, etc - however, in order to keep it off the streets they charge a fortune for it.

I recently acquired a Peugeot diagnostic computer from a friend who works in the independant trade at cost for £140 - buy one officially over the counter it would've cost be £1200, best part of a 1000% mark up.

Back on topic, were could I obtain service/repair data on PDF? i have Haynes and Clymer, and for general disassembly etc they're great, but I never trust the detailed data, such as fine measurements and settings etc.

Yeah George I normally always purchase the factory service manuals. As a matter of fact, the last two I bought were for Yamaha ATVs that I owned & I purchased them from a dealership right down the block from my shop. That dealer closed its doors a year ago. I'm gonna have to buy online which is why I was enquiring about opinions.

Ok sorry to hear about your local store. if they are available in the states across the counter perhaps it might be an idea to ask the state side boys who is VERY near a dealer and do it that way PLUS ask who else needs a copy?

Then you can ask the MODS & DIRECTORS if the site would like to chip in to web it... just my personal idea and not asked as a director !

80 odd USD is a fair chunk but split 4 ways .............................. and the web version only available to those who donated......................... to stop leachers ?

Nope.

I highly suggest buying a used one from eBay. You can get them for less than $20. They are much handier than a computer screen and they're legal.

unfortunate RD & the Directors/ Mods do have to care as we end up in jail just for trying to help out a bad situation.
Frankly having stayed out of jail this long I would be miffed if I got caught now:-}

If I speed, then I get into trouble. I can accept that.

BUT, if someone posts an "illegal" copy of a manual in our OPEN forum, then I get in trouble. That, I cannot accept.
