Every now and then the oil light comes on, what does this mean? oil?
I check the level every day with the bike straight and the level is just fine. What else can it mean? could it be alternator not charging? (have not had battery problems)
Also my speedometer cable snapped, I dont think that can cause it.. can it?

Re: Oil light?
I had a problem with my light coming on when I would make right hand turns. RR told me it's because the pump is more on the left. Anyway I had to add oil to mine and then later I was driving and when I would get on it pretty hard the light would come one. Again I checked my oil with the bike on the stand and it was inside the 2 dots. Long story short is when I added a little it made it easier for the pump to pick up the oil and the light quit coming on. Also I recommend next time you go to change the oil put a little seafoam in there. In case there is crud on the pump screen.

Follow the instruction on the can if you do this.kilika2 wrote:Also I recommend next time you go to change the oil put a little seafoam in there.
Has nothing to do with it.reallyniceguy wrote:Also my speedometer cable snapped, I dont think that can cause it.. can it?
The oil level switch is about as basic as it gets. Turn the bike on its side a little and it goes off... be a little low and it goes off. You can always add a little more oil and it will probably take care of the issue.

Re: Oil light?
As darrin pointed out the switch is a oil level indicator, nothing to do with oil pressure.
Here's a scenario. Your on a long ride, oh look that oil light's on again, damn stupid switch, you think. What if a bad oil leak has developed? you'd have seconds to turn the engine off before major engine damage!!
I'd be getting that oil level sender fixed asap.

I added more oil and it seems to be gone. I put more than half is that bad?
Also idiot me... while checking the oil I dropped the bike and couldnt pick it up, it got scracthed

I used lucas 20w 50 sythetic, only used half a quart. i guess my bike burns oil, I cant find a leak anywhere.
