so should i pass it up?
It'll be my first rode bike, but i've ridden motocross for years.
I'd like to do some little things to it in the future, depending on how much I use it, but would you buy it or let it go?
I talked the guy down to $600.

600 isn't bad, I came across an 89 before I got my 95 and I'm glad I got the 95 because there is alot more parts availiable from the guys on here. I can't remember the last time I even thought about getting a part from somewhere online or ebay. plus all the stuff that ThatKid posted recently. My 2 cents.

I have no real idea of state side prices but I bought my 600 for 650UKP s in England so dollar = pounds under these circumstances.Mines a 92 with 12K I think it was 2 years or so back Had a cracked LH fairing a 1" hole in the corner of the headlamp fairing & light scuff on seat fairing. Well serviced and well looked after by the owner from new it was a silly low speed drop that ruined his memories of the bike so he sold it on to me.

Personally I would not buy the 87 as too old look for a 92 onward and in good shape less than 18 on the clock or you may need to re-shim valves not abiggy but tedious.

Ya I think i'm gonna pass.
Not much of an aftermarket and I won't have the time I thought i'd have to work on it.
I'll try to find a 92 and up.
Thanks for the advice.

If you go pre 95 see if it has the upgraded vr.. or go for one that is post 95, it's all good. But if you do go pre either figure in the cost of a 60 vr and use that as a bargaining chip. Even if the bike runs great I would buy one in the anticipation of changing it out. Got my new one on ebay for 12 dollars from a junk shop.

what do you guys think?
I am going to check it out this weekend.
It needs new rear plastics (the ones around the tail lights).
Thats all I know of.
I was thinking $1200.

Doesn't hurt to look at it and make an offer. Do you have a link or pictures of it?

I have a 100 % stock 1990 FZR600

I have the skinny 3,5" rear rim with the 130/70x18" tyre and the swingarm is of the old style.
