R6 brake calipers!
I am looking at getting a cheap pair of r6 calpiers and want to know if the 2004 model will be a direct bolt up to my 99 front forks? I only have like an hour to bid so the sooner the better

Yes, they should bolt directly on. Just make sure they are blue dot calipers.

How much work did it take for that swingarm swap? That looks amazing!

That is a double sided question. At the time, it was a real bitch. But now that I've done it, it is simple. There is a good amount of machine work that need to happen to do it though. The basics are to shave the swingarm and frame down so it will fit. The hard part is getting the sprockets to line up and moving the shock mounts.

Thats what makes it fun and awesome! I almost bought a VFR setup this week, but I have need of new forks more. Ill be getting one over the winter for sure. Fun and awsome if u have a good selection of tools. I have to half a** half the stuff i do because lack of tools. It sucks but one day i will have all the tools and my own shop so then i will try this crazy stuff.

YZF600/YZF100R/R6/R1 Blue spot, R6/R1 Gold Spot, FZ1 Silver Spot NON- radial calipers...all bolt right onto 90+ FZR 600 forks. The only advantage to just swapping the calipers are the the slight weight savings. The key to making this an "upgrade" is the master cylinder. My suggestion would be a 16x18mm (it has to be this size to work properly with said calipers) radial master cylinder. Various companies make them, including Brembo. Brembo makes the OEM radial master cylinder that comes on the 07+ R6v (for example) and that is a 16x18. A great combo for the FZR 600 is R1/R6 Gold Spot calipers, with stainless or braided lines, and a radial master cylinder. Now if you can't find a radial master cylinder then a non radial master cylinder from one of the bikes i mentioned will work as well. Either way it will be a useful upgrade.

As far as bolt on calipers go, the 02-03 R1 gold dots are youre best bet for performance upgrade, otherwise, its like D said, theyre mostly lighter. The gold dots have teflon lined pistons, thats really the only difference. Even if you dont upgrade to a radial master cylinder, using a newer MC is a great improvement on braking performance and feedback. YZF600, R6, R1,theyre all pretty much the same until the radials came out. Im running R1 blue dots with SS lines and a R6 MC, and EBC HH pads and the braking is GREAT!
