stalling/starting problem...Fuel pump problem?

Post by shredex »

I was on my way home when my bike back fired and stalled out.
I stopped and hit the start button and the bike acted like it had no battery power.
Push...one turn of the starter, guages go out. and nothing. let go of the start button and the guage lights come one working fine.
I try many times with the same results.
I push the bike home and I call my brother to bring me my battery tender.
The stator and battery were the first on my mind.
then when I turned on my my ignition, the fuel pump will click for about 5 seconds...EVERYTIME though...it seems to never prime, just pumps five seconds of fuel in each time. So I removed my gas tank from the bike along with the fuel pump and try starting it and the bike fired right up....im so confused right now...but im afraid to go anywhere and have it die on me again...any ideas?

I tested the fuel pump and it was pumping fuel out.

after sitting on the charger, it finally fired up. I let it run for a bit. shut it off, nd fired it back up.
then I turned on my taillight and headlights and tried firing it and it tried to turn over but didnt and stopped.
turned the headlights and taillight off and it would start either. I think my stator if fooked. or just my battery.

have you checked the voltage on the batt yet i have on occasion had to jump start mine (you can do it yourself) due to a dead battery and a broken wire on the vr a bike can run off a weak battery but not crank cause of the power needed to turn it over

My bike didnt exactly run on it...I did say that the bike backfired while riding then stalled out.
I cant check the voltage because I dont own a multimeter. Otherwhys Id check to see if it was my stator that was bad.
the battery is charging on the charger though, so that makes me think that its the stator

I left the bike out last night and it was COVERED in moisture this morning so Im guessing that corroded it or something.

OK, I stole the VR connector off the yzf harness and wired it up to mine using heat shrink and all that god stuff and used the clean VR from the yzf and plugged everything in along with the freshly charged battery and everything seems to be working great right now.

so the problem was the connection to the VR

thats what happened to me i bought the bike back from my brother and he had ridden it in the winter so the salt ate away at the terminal i dident notice it when i went over it till i took it home 140 miles and it died twice on the high way, i almost got killed tring to get into the breakdown lane finally noticed the connector and jammed it in there jumped it and smooth as silk except for the teeth on the sprocket breaking off every so often

Shredex,
that is NOT from one night believe me.
That has been hoy alot of times enough to melt the covering. The greeness of that stuff tellls me that it has been long standing as that is copper based the white powder would be the plating cover of the lugs.

NOW you have a new set up get some DIALECTRIC grease ( radio shack ) and coat the new plug & socket with that, unles you like pushing the bike around.

It after all probably believes that is fair play since it is always toting your ass around LoL
