turn signal electrical problem

Post by match417 »

I've tried everything..I've even ran two wires outside of the harness directly to the turn signal and also made my own ground..same exact problem. The right turn signal is always on, and it's bright as normal, and the left signal flashes dim once when I flip the switch. I tested the flasher (not stock, regular two prong flasher) by taking it off and connecting it straight to the battery with the light connected to the flasher, everything worked fine, light blinked as it normally would. So that would make you think it's the switches, right? Wrong..perfect continuity on the switch for left and right signal. Crap man, what's going on here? There is no way there is a crossed wire, that was the first thing I suspected, like I said, I ran two wires directly from the switches into the lights and grounded it straight to the battery. The switches have perfect continuity, and the flasher works when it isn't connected to the switches. The only thing I haven't changed is the brown/white wire that goes from the flasher to the switches, but if it somehow twisted with a hot wire then I would get a steady light on the turn signal when I flip the switch on the handlebar. And I'm pretty sure it's not a wiring issue on the handlebar switches, I wired them in, but the problem existed before I swapped the handlebar switches.

On a side note, my low beam headlight isn't working, I'm suspecting that the problem might be related to the turn signal problem, right now I have the high beam wire switched around with the low beam at the bulb so I'll have a low beam headlight, I just have to keep the handlebar switch on high for it to work.

It almost works, i took the switches off yesterday, noticed two wires looked like they needed to be swapped, so I swapped them, popped a fuse, swapped them back and changed the fuse and the low beam works now??? and the turn signals now work separately, except they don't blink. When all I did was swap two wires, then swap them back to the way they were before. Flasher works fine on it's own, but not connected through the system. :headscratch: I'll play with it some more today.
