On race bikes in the past I have used high heat Silicon glue as a sealant it is elastic enough to keep the seal when the engine shakes the pipes on their rubber mounts and is easy to break for maintenance and easy to peel out the spigot & out side the pipe.

Basically, the couplers are on permanently as are the flanges. If I ever wanted to swap headers I would need new flanges.
