stator oil leak

Post by Travis »

Any one know why I have an oil leak from the stator? Its coming from behind the fly wheel I believe. Is there a gasket that needs replacing or what?

Oil Seal - Look under "Crankshaft Piston" in the online microfiches.

I doubt that it would be fun to replace.

I would imagine you have to split the case to replace it. It goes around the crankshaft....

Travis,
if the seal is leaking, it needs replacing. Oil will degrade the insulation on the electrics within the flywheel area..

Theoretically if you remove the flywheel you can see & remove the seal HOWEVER if you think about it the seal should not be able to be replaced the same way as there will be a retaining lip to stop the seal being blown out by the pressure within the engine.
Sorry,
