Just picked up a Fzr 600, it had several issuse like a dead battery faulty charging system (it check out as the Stator). We put in the new battery and strator every thing seems to be charging now.
But here is the problem it will run excellent for a while (30 minutes), then bog down a stall. You can start it up but it wil not rev above 1500 rpms at full throtle and pours out black smoke. The battery has 12.90 volts, it may not run right again hours, or even for days.
Not sure were to start is it a fuel system problem ( floats sticking) or a ignition problem ( ignitor unit)?
Thanks Roger

Have you updated the Voltage Regulator? Many people have problems when they overheat. When they overheat, they affect a lot of things.

Re: intermitant problem with 1990 FZR 600
So your battery can be charging, or VR putting out proper voltage and still be affecting the engine performance.
I can not check if its charging right when it acts up as it will not stay running if I let off the throtle, but the battery has 12.9 volts when its acting up.
I started it up this morning ran good for about 10 minutes other than a spuder here and there, then back to only 1500 rpms at full throtle. I pulled the tank and air cleaner it started right back up corectly with the fuel in the bowls. The petcock is leaking, as well as the carb bowls?
ANY IMPUT PLEASE

you should be able to check the electrical when the bike isn't acting up. if the petcock is leaking, replace it. i think they're pretty cheap. If the carbs are leaking gas you may need to replace the float bowl gaskets (might as well replace them all while you're in there).
someone want to back me up here?
