Transmission noise

Post by asdfghwy »

Just bought the bike, it has been sitting for a while. 1998 fzr-600. After letting it warm up for about 10 minutes if I pull the clutch in and shift to 4 / 5 / 6 it makes like a rattling type noise and when I engage the clutch it gets worse. What could this be? It doesn't always happen for 4 / 5 / 6, sometimes its just 5 and 6 sometimes it just 4th. I really don't want this to be anything major!

How many miles on the bike? Could be the bolts on the clutch basket are loose. :headscratch: You will have to pull the side cover and check. I am sure some of the other guys will chime in.

It's been sitting...you change the oil yet? Have you checked the front sprocket to make sure it's not loose?

Guy who sold it to me said 15k, but I don't believe it. It has a new speedo so mileage is innacurate. I did do an oil change to it, and it alleviated a lot of wierd noises transmission/engine wise. I'm going to be installing sprockets / chain soon so I will have the side cover off soon to be able to take a look. I hope it's something easy like the front sprocket being loose or clutch basket. Any other suggestions before I assume its transmission problems? That would be a real downer because I've been waiting to ride this bike for awihle and that would set me back a bit
