Well the saga continues. Listening to your advice, I have parked the bike. It was popping fuses like crazy. VR is most likely Fubar. So I ordered a new VR (eBay $79.95 + shipping) upgrading to the 95+ since it's a (little) :shocker more robust, then the pre 95 type. Appreciate the help guys. :tks:

I don't recall how much i paid for mine, but it was at least $60. A new one seems to go for around 90 around here.

It is a bit steep, a few of the online dealers are selling them new for around $90 - 100 new. The one I ordered off eBay is new. What a difference between the old and new. Like what has been said before by many, this is a essential mod that should be done first. (I should have known better) :duh:

It makes me wonder how the old VR design ever made it past testing.

beleive me. they have done worse

the 82-83 yamaha vision has the worse charing system known to man, they go through a stator every few oil changes it seems.

I had one for 6 months and went through 2 stators, 1 VR, 1 battery, and one CDI. what a PITA.

was fun when it worked though, sportyish standard seating, quad cam 550 vtwin, water cooled shaft drive, smooth as butter!

I should have it here by Thursday, so we'll see then. I was referencing the difference between the old crappy one verses the newer design. by looking at these pictures.

...and whats even more insulting is they're both almost the same price (new). :yikes:

We'll I got the VR over the weekend, and found some time yesterday between the rolling thunders storms going on up here in the northeast. Started the bike up first crank, with no choke, and it ran extremely well. I let it warm up for about 5 mins, put it in gear and turned the handlebar ever so slightly and puff, it quit (perplexed). Replaced the fuse (again) So I started playing around with the wiring harness pulling it away from the handle bar seeing if I could find some exposed wire touching metal. Having moved around the wiring harness around the ignition switch area, seemed to rectify the problem (so far). Anyone had a similar problem? :ermm:

You gotta look a little closer dude.. If you're popping fuses by simply moving the bars, you definitely have a short somewhere in the system.. You might have to peel the wire casing to see it, and it might be small, but keep looking.. Either way, you moved the bars and it seemed to help, so you know roughly where the short is occuring. It's a start.
