Should be on the frame by the steering neck.

That's really odd. If it's not the frame by the steering column, then I don't know what to tell you. It wouldn't be located anywhere else...

Has the frame been painted, powdercoated, ? There's a little decal with dates and places and the VIN; the VIN is also hard-stamped into a flat surface on the side of the steering head.

ill have to double check in the morning when i have more light. the frame is black, the guy i bought it from said it came black.?

i didnt notice any flat spot on the steering stem where a vin would be stamped.

would the motor have a corresponding number that i could get run to confirm the same vin i have with the title?

my ins. company noted the bike as an fzr600r according to vin, if that makes any difference.............

the vin is on the right side (when sitting on bike) of the steering column.
mine was hard to make out because it is ppowder coated.
but the vin is pressed into the frame on the steering column

ill have to double check in better light, maybe remove some parts to get a solid look.

is it possible to get an " un-vin-ed " frame?

No. Stamped VIN numbers are a requirement for the manufacturor...even for the 'one-off' custom builders. Even replacement frames from the OEM's have to have a "certificate of origin", bill of sale, and stamped numbers.

If it is "un-vin-ed" it has most likely been stolen and the numbers were ground off.

The stamping will be pretty blurry with paint or powdercoat over it...but it WILL be there....on the headstock. A piece of chalk will often make the numbers stand out so you can read them.

If it is all OEM Yamaha, the last few digits of the engine numbers will correspond to the last of the VIN numbers

i'll double check inthe morning, and check the engine case numbers with the title.
