katana 600 swingarm and forks
hey everyone new to the fzr600 i just bought a 1990 from a guy and i rode it and all that good stuff and rode great but a lil concerned ive been looking and i dont know if i overlooked it r what but i havent seen anyone else with the katana forks and swingarm just wondering is this safe r do i need to convert it back i think about something breaking everytime i ride this thing any insight would be appreciated

I don't think that's extended. I think it's stock katana length. Probably why most people don't do that swap. Looks to be a few inches over stock fzr length which is going to make the bike handle like poo in the turns.shredex wrote:extended swingarm....interesting...
It'll depend on what type of riding you're going to be doing. Mostly straight lines you'll probably be fine. Twisties, you'll probably want to go back to stock.

yea its stock katana length around here we really dont have no twisties so im good on that one and believe it r not it handles pretty well

well, you i knew how long the pivot point on the stock swingarm was, I could go up to this dude warehouse and pic threw is stock of swingarms from everybike imaginable and see what ones will bolt up and it will give you a better choice

thanks yea come tommorow it wont be black anymore ill post some more pics when im finished with the paint and got it all put back together

The extra wheelbase will not only cock up the handling, but the extra leverage on the shock will make setting the shock up a nightmare, assuming it still doesn't have a kacked original unit on it.
I'm sure it's safe if fitted properly, but I'd be looking to change it back myself. Perhaps a nice 400 arm conversion?

One thing to think about if you're planning on returning back to stock is what modification was done to fit those katana bits. It may be the case that the frame was altered and the original fzr stuff will not bolt on directly anymore.

nice looking bike, can't wait to see how it looks once you're done painting. if you do keep the katana swinger, don't forget that you're going to need a few more chain links than the fzr stock when you go to replace the chain. if you do decide to do a swingarm swap you may want to consider a YZF swingarm swap. There are numerous guides on the site and the YZF swinger will give you a much wider selection of tires.

Actually, if I remember right he'd have a 17x4.0 or 17x4.5 inch rear rim right now, depending on the year katana the parts are from. If he does, another option is to find a cheap fzr600 swinger and go ahead and to the suzuki rim swap (since you'd have all the stuff) and that would take care of having to suffer the 18-inch-rear-rim-blues. Hi there.
It looks like the arm is same internally down its length.Is it not possible to shorten arm and get axel oval hole redrilled further forward on the arm.
The adjustment inserts take the pressure of tightening axel.
Do they slide further up the swingarm if you remove wheel and push them up the arm?

actually it rides really great i got the fairings painted gonna put them back on when i get a chance its white with orange pearl and blue i cleared it the first time and didnt like it so i re did it without clearing it and i like it alot better
