06 / 07 VR

Post by dreman »

Got my VR in the mail today. As always, I manage to order the wrong thing. The VR I ordered has 6 pins and not 5. Can I still use this? If so, do I follow the wiring in the R6 VR tutorial.

Thanks in advance.

Don't think so. You need to look for 95-07 YZF600 or 99-05 R6.

If anyone has a wire diagram for the 06/07 R6, we might be able to figure it out though. Without it, we don't know what the 6th wire is for.

Get a diagram of the '06/'07

All rect/regs do the same thing. Convert (rectify) three phase AC into DC and then regulate 13v or so back to the battery, 'sinking' all excess voltage to ground.

As long as you get the three phase inputs right, the DC output to the battery right, and the 'sink' to ground right, you're good to go.

This just in...found the 06 wiring diagram online...if you look at the connector from the end...what I'll call the upper side of it has the two corners notched. On the upper tier of wires it is:

Black (to ground), Blank-no connection, Red (to Batt+)
White(3phase), white................., white.............

In other words, they don't use all six poles. The upper middle one is a dead wire.

Very interesting. If it indeed works, we'll all have more upgrade part choices for a little while longer.

Hell you could use any of the first five(except the third one top row) on this page:

Me, I would use the $53 one-replacement for Kawasaki V-Twin power equipment engine. Same connector. Rated 17amp.

DReman,
take a look at :-
http://www.saltmine.org.uk/fzr/vr.html

It has the the same VR you are talking about. If the fins are on top looking at the socket on the VR.
The botom three pins take the white wires from the engine (3 phrase generator) top left is the wiring loom ground, the middle is also ground ( to the mounting plate as was done on the old VR ) Top RIGHT goes to the Battery

Hi George. thanks. Do i have to use the middle pin or can i just use the left hand top pin for ground and mount it to the backing plate?

Hi,
I cannot be sure BUT i am a belt & braces kinda guy so I did. since the VR was made to do it and I have not got an inner VR diagram for that model & therefor will not assume that the two grounds are actually connected internally.

At the time of the work my ohmeter was some 20 miles away so checking was out :{{{
