Tire questions....again.

Sorry to bring this up for those in the know, but I'm a little confused and don't want to spend money on something I have to return.

I'm looking for new rubber, and the old 150's that were on the rear of the bike aren't made anymore. (1993 600FZR)

With my stock wheels can I run a Bridgestone BT-016 on the rear? It shows the size to be 160/60ZR-18, and I don't want to rub.

Any clarification or suggestions on pros/cons of tires (or tyres) would help me greatly.

I read many were using the 160 width, but just wanted to make sure there wasn't a mod to do this.

You can not run anything more than the 150. Thats what i ran before the swap. I dont think you can even fit the 160 in between the stock swinger.

A 160 is really pushing it especially if you keep the stock 18" rim.

The BT-014s are still available in the 150 size and I personally wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. They were sticky enough for the road although they did square off a little quicker than I would have liked.

If you want to run on the track, you can still get BT090s from stickboyracing.com.

funny, I was checking out tires unlimited and they said the BT-016's were replacements for the BT-014's so I was a little confused......

the BT016 only has a 160/60/18 wheel...
I think that one will fit though...

The 160 will fit on a 4.0" rim, but it is really pushing it for a few things like the rim, swingarm, brake callipare arm, and chain to tire rub. The 150 is a better choice and fits the 3.5" rim even though some places will complain about mounting them. The 160 doesn't have a prayer of fitting the 3.5" rim. The BT 16's are the replacement tire for the BT 14" although Bridgestone will probably make the 14's for a while. As of 4 months ago, there was a shortage of the 150 from Bridgestone so you may want to call a store and check first instead of ordering online. This is unfortunate as the Bridgestone BT14 is the only one to come in a 150 in for a 18" rim that is considered a supersport tire. Others make tires that fit, but they are more of a sport touring compound. If they won't offer this from the BT16 then YZF swingarms/wheels are going to go up in value.

That's why I held off for awhile before ordering tires, as I had read that was the case. I all honesty I could probably go with a sport/touring tire as I don't push too hard anymore (too many years touring on a Harley roadking) but still miss a sportbike when in the mountains or other areas with nice roads.

I'm planning a little trip on the fizzer this summer into Northern Arkansas, where the bike will shine in the twisties they have down there.

I continue to be impressed with my AVON AV56 rear in 150. It's got about 3000miles on it and has yet to start squaring off, but grip is really close to the last Bridgestone BT014 I had...with what is looking to be at least twice the lifespan. Nice profile, rides really well.

I took the bike for a ride in our 50° thaw yesterday...wet roads, slush on the roadsides..warmed up quick and was completely composed.

That's really cheap. A Pirelli shipped for $105... I'd buy 2...

Course, you'd probably want to stick a Pirelli on the front to match and I'm not sure if they still sell the Dragons.

Yeah. I've heard they are a good tire!
I don't mind mix and match...I run that avon rear with a bt014 front and it's a nice combo. I am going to be looking at other tires for the front when the one I have starts getting thin, but i'm gonna try to see one on the same size rim to see what the shape is like.
