few other things about my bike

Post by ian »

I still have high oil consumption. I had to refill a few days ago, and I just did an oil change 2-3 weeks ago, or about 1000 miles ago. I doubt its a leak, as I haven't seen any puddles. Any ideas?
Another question, it seems my bike is farting out carbon. I first noticed it on the fender of my car (probably from backing out of the garage) and then saw some more on the garage door (most likely from letting my bike idle in front of it). It makes a splatter pattern like dirty road water. I should've taken pics, but I'll get a paper plate or something and hold it behind the can to see and I'll take pics of that.

Could these problems be related? what do I need to do for each?

you could be burning oil , does it smoke when you rev it up ? my suggestion is to do a compression check and see if one or all of the cylinders is low .

you can have a shop do it , or you can buy a compression tester , it a got a dial and screws into the spark plug holes .

look at the bright side, you always have fresh oil! J/K definitely do a compression test. Thatll let you know. I would suspect youre burning oil.

have you tried a different kind of oil? With rotella my bike burned @ quart every 500 miles and had pretty smoky startups, I switched to valvoline it only burns like a few ounces now, and very little if any smoke on startup.

does your bike rev smoothly and steadily to red line (or almost) ?

or does it climb slowly over around 5000 revs?
