What oil are you running?

Post by cell »

What Brand/Weight oil is everyone running? I need to change mine, I believe that is causing some slippage of my clutch plus I need to fix my pan leak. Anyways, just trying to see whats better for the Fizz.

What's happenin'?

I barely changed my oil with Valvoline 10w40 4 stroke Motorcycle oil.. It's pretty cheap (found at Checkers or Autozone) , and you can't go wrong with Valvoline. Here's some specs on it:
http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products ... product=76

I also changed my oil filter with a K&N .. It has a "nut" welded on it so you can use a ratchet with an extension right thru the exhaust pipes.

My bike sees revs close to redline pretty often so I trust Valvoline..
Good luck

Always used Yamahalube 10w-30 or 10w-40 in the FZR. The CBR gets AMSoil 10w-40 MC.

I use Rotella non syn in the 600 currently (yay 15 buck oil change with filter)

used Rotella Syn before, thought it was making my clutch slip but my MC was the culprint

used Mobil 1 Racing 4T as well. cost the same as amsoil.

Spectro Golden 4 10W-40 semi-synthetic (a bit expensive though)

never any problems here

also noticed this oil seem to help transmission shift more smoothly also

Any really good motorcycle shop or dealer. if not they should be able to order it from a local distributor.

you won't find it at any place that sells car oil. i think it's around 11 - 12 bucks a quart... could be more now, not sure.

you can also get the standard type... it's a lot cheaper but still is better for transmission. i just went nuts and got the semi-synthetic expensive stuff just to try it out. the regular kind is VERY good and probably 7 or 8 bucks a quart instead.

if you can't find it try some Amsoil.... they are really great also. I use MAXIMA oil in my motocross bike, that's some good stuff too. Maxima Premium is about $20 a gallon from Dennis Kirk.

Yea yea yea... I tried searching for oil threads but the search engine on this forum isn't exactly friendly. Anything too small and it has a seizure, and anything that is said to often makes it want to punch a baby. So instead, I was lazy and started yet another... oil thread ... :-D
