VR Q

Post by fropleyquark »

When I installed my airtech tail I remounted the VR like this:

I know they get hot so I wanted to make sure it was getting enough air under the tail... so, I decided to touch it after about 30 min of riding. Well, not really a good idea. My fingertip feels like I touched a hot stove. My Q is, how do I know if it's getting too hot?

Sounds like it will eventually fry, as those older Vr's tend to, Not sure what too Hot for it is but anything electrical that gets that hot cant be good.. Try a newer still Vr,I have mounted a pc heat sink and fan to a friends and he had no problems, (his was in stock tail, before i knew about the FZR forums), so had no clue about the upgraded Vr's. Old-School Yamaha mech. i know told me about it...

OK, yeah, just ordered a YZF VR. So, hopefully it wont catch on fire before the new one gets here. I might actually park the bike till then. Not really into melting my new tail either....

The mod is pretty easy, i did mine over the weekend and took pics. I should have them up soon; mine is mounted in the stock location though so YMMV.

It needs to be mounted to(touching) more metal. The metal acts as a heat sink and disperses the heat over a larger surface area which will keep it cooler.

I went ahead and reattached the aluminum plate for now. It should work for the time being.
