Wont Crank Still????? Help!! (UPDATE)!!

I hate the way people use the term "turn over". It gets so confusing. To me, turning over is when the engine turns but is not necessarily running. When it tries to start but doesn't quite do that, I use the term "catching".

So you're saying that the when you press the starter, the engine turns over but will not catch, correct? If that's the case I'd have the battery load tested. If it starts up just fine with the charger or by bump starting, I can't see how it could be anything but the battery. When it turns over, is turning nice and fast? How much faster does it turn with the charger hooked up?

The starter is engaging fine.......Its spinning the engine fine....Its spinning the engine just as fast as it always has....and when I hook the charger to it...It spins way too fast...It dont turn the charger to BOOST but a few seconds...worried it will buen up something.....So the bike will as luke says it "Turns over but wont catch"...or it will start over but not crank up.......I hope everyone knows whats going on.....Thanks LUKE....and I havent talked to ya since I came over here......Glad to see ya here...

Well guys I checked this morn after riding it to work and it not charging now? 12.2 v idling.......What is the correct resistance of the 3 stator wires? or the correct way to test it? could this be my cranking problems?

I second the battery is hosed, it can turn over but not give enough juice to ingnite the fuel esp if cold. Sounds like the culprit. Batteries can cause some bizzare problems that will seem unrelated.

I had a battery problem a few days ago. The lights would come on, and the fuel pump would make its noise. Once I pushed the start button nothing. I hooked my charger up and got an error saying Cell short. The morning all this happened I jump started it and it ran like crap. New battery and all is good.

Nope, No the battery......tested it 150cca at 12.4v...(good) battery.....If that is the case...I could jump it off with a vehicle and some cables huh? NOT!! It still wont start.....I have to have the Charger on (225) BOOST...That will crank a Cummins Diesel........

I dunno man......mine would do that when it was almost down to reserve ALOT

my battery was old and if it sat for a week or so...I had to jump it, but it tested out fine all the time

Maybe it's the starter motor itself? Or the clutch gear? I'm out of ideas.

The test for the stator is to put your meter between any of the whites and you should 60-80 VAC at 3k RPM. Any combination of the whites should yield the same result.

starter motor is turning the engine fine........Listen up everyone...What about my spark plug problem with it not going into the combustion chamber good? Could that be the root of my evil? Remember the post from the archives? And I drove it to work today...30 miles one way...runs excellent......just have to push it off.......

I'm just shooting in the dark here, but maybe your spark plug wires are shot ? I've heard of it happening before, and you said you rode it in a really bad rainstorm, maybe that put the nails in the coffin? Don't know.

Worse case you need to drop a YZF engine in there if you can find one. Of course that's a bunch more money.

Nope.....I purchased new or barely used set of original coils and wires......But Thanks on the post? Someone said yamaha-george may know something............maybe someone can tell me something that will ring a bell.........

It's getting decent enough spark to run and bump start, just not when starting with the battery. I know you're convinced it's not the battery but all signs are pointing straight there and only there.

I'm out of ideas.

So when you connect a car battery or jumper cables it won't start but if you connect a bost charger it works fine. Have you tried just getting a new battery and trying it? or maybe a friend with a sim type of battery.
