Oil question

Post by fadlan12 »

Does the FZR600 have an oil overflow for the crankcase? I may have put too much oil back in after changing it.

i've never seen anything like that. I'd just loosen the oil pan drain bolt and let about a cup of oil out at a time until the bike has the correct level of oil in the sight-glass.

Kind of what I thought, the level seems fine. I will look closer for an actual leak. Could putting supertech 20w50 cause the leak?

i don't think so, i guess you need to find out where it's leaking from. could possibly be a worn-out or blown gasket. not sure. of course the oil pressure might have just pushed the oil out of somewhere if you really overfilled it, and maybe it will be fine now that the oil level is correct (?)

i know my mx bike has something like that, but it's not technically called an overflow, i think it's called an oil pressure check bolt. i had the threads (goddamn soft yamaha metal) go bad last year, and it was leaking like a sieve after a few laps one day. it blended in with the mud but fortunately i caught it in time. a rubber O-ring gasket has prevented any more from getting out and seems to do a good job. i don't want to have to replace the whole stupid oil pan unless i absolutely have to. why can't companies make things better. i know i didn't apply more than 5 foot-pounds of torque... and i know i didn't cross thread it. it's just crappy Yamaha metal. worthless, argh!!
