Track Day Prep / 17" Suzuki Rim Installed

Well, the 17" Suzuki rim went right on with a couple of spacers. When I say "spacers", I mean "washers". Somehow they were a perfect size internally.

I need to change the front sprocket to a 14 tooth, but I need a lock washer before doing that.

Also need to remove the mirrors, safety wire the exhaust can to the header or find a spring. Doug - do you still have those springs from your V&H?

Here she is with the Fox TC reservoir hanging and missing the side fairings... Will have side fairings on Track Day this upcoming Saturday.

I already hid the reservoir under the seat, changed out the fork oil to 15W, changed the oil, checked bolts, got the Sharkskinz TZ250 tail on her (as shown).

The rear tire wasn't my first choice, but since it was on there, I might as well use it...

It an Avon AV36. Pretty wild tire design if you ask me. I should probably take it for a spin before I get to the track to know how the new set-up handles.

Wow! She's purty. What year rim did you use? Post some pics of her when you get the fairings on before she hits the track. Good job!

We're still working on the rim identification. So far we believe it is either from a 89ish GSXR 750 or 96-99 bandit.

That's not the real issue. The real issue is finding out what the sprocket hub came from.

I need a yellow strip across the tail - don't I?

We'll have some pics. I'm also working on video. Need to get my cameras hook up some how.

Doug (Haunter) will also be there. Anyone in the St. Louis vicinity should come on out! We'd love to meet you. It's only $5 to get in to watch and meet others.

i'd leave as much plastic off the bike as you can

You don't need to safety wire anything. Where my exhaust can/midpipe combo meets the headers, there is supposed to be a couple springs.

I don't have them.

I think that decal on the back is too small but my opinion could be a bit biased.

OK now I'm jealous, I suppose I need to get my Suzuki rim installed next eh! Yours looks great.

Life would be easier if you had that sprocket hub that I have. I wish I knew what it was out of.

I've even tried the guys on the Suzuki forums, but I don't think they work on bikes like we do.

Don't forget that you'll need new bearings. The ones in there fit a Suzuki axle. I suppose you could just use the Suzuki axle, but you'd have to drill the axle adjusters, swingarm slots and brake caliper arm. Or you could get a suzuki caliper and arm and try that.

Here's an update. I don't believe that the sprocket alignment is perfect, but it is not very far off. The rear sprocket needs to come out a tad. I need to think of some way to do that.

The Avon proved to be a decent tire. I only tore loose when i changed gears.

Anyway, it took about 35-40 minutes of abuse at the track on Saturday and the FZR performed perfectly! I was able to whip the FZR tight into any corner as long as I was confident in my own abilities. My biggest concern with the FZR was the braking from the straight away into the first corner. I haven't had to crank the brakes down that hard before, so it might have just been me...

I really didn't have enough track time to feel confident in some corners. I was in the faster group, but we caught up to the slower group way too soon and they wouldn't let us pass anyone... However; they would recognize the slower bikes and pull them off the track to the pits to let us go by which was nice. They said that they speed limit would be 100 mph, but I consistenty hit 115 on the straight away. Pathetic I know, but if I didn't brake right after the Start/Finish line then I would have crashed into the guys taking the first turn.
