fzr or yzf?
Trying to figure out what I have, yzf or fzr.I've looked at pics on the net and it looks like the 97 yzf has a one piece seat and the fzr has two piece? Can't tell by the graphics on the lower fairings because they didn't come with the bike and the remaining plastics have been painted over. Also the title to the bike says its a 98 but the vin. sticker on the frame says manufacture date 9/97.Can anyone help with this? thanks
Re: fzr or yzf?
The YZF and FZR look VERY different.
This is the '97 YZF600:
Note the scoops on the tail and the central intake at the nose, as well as the knee pockets on the frame and one big headlight. Note that the 'blue dot' front brake calipers are not necessarily a definitive identifying point, as these are a common bolt-on mod for older FZRs.
This is the '97 FZR600:
It has two much smaller intakes above the dual headlights, and no vents on the tail.

Re: fzr or yzf?
As for year, and this goes for justabout anything with a vin#. Anything born before the 6th month is going to be previous year, anything after is the next year up. So if I had a bike or car that is dated on the title as a 1998 it would be labeled something like "7/97" but if it were 5/97 it wasearly enough to be a 97. Its strange, but true. From halfway through the year on up will be the next year after on the title.
