Hi all... my bike is finally finished, now it is time for me to do my test
But... My theory & cbt run out soon, and due to lack of funds I want to get some sort of full licence sorted asap! so It is going to be my restrcticed licence ( no fun, I know but atleast it will give me two years to get used to her...)
But I cant seem to find any restrictor kits, does anyone have any? or know where I can get them from? (CHEAP AS!!!) please
try fi international, they are stupid money for what is effectively a set of washers! ebay may bring some up but not all that common, i'll see if anyone i know has any.

£172!!!
Hopefully they dont hold there value that much when 2nd hand... LOL
possible got someone that can make some, i've got the measurements for a 3tj set but just need a couple of measurements for the 3en, the only problem would be that you'd need to have the bike dyno'd to prove its power and there's no guarantee it'll be low enough without testing them for yourself which will cost money to do!

That would be good!
Doesnt it have to be dyno'd first any way? to make sure its above 33bhp?
does anyone know the standard bhp of a fzr400? iv tried searching online but i can only find the hp... are they the same? :/
There are some restrictor washers advertised on Ebay now From a guy called dt50james. Starting bid 4.99 plus 1.00 postage. This is the same guy my son bought his from. Also do not believe anything you read or get told about needing a certificate to prove it is restricted. This is something that has been talked about for a long time and will be forever I think. But at the end of the day is not required by law.
Hope this helps

P.S. yes hp and bhp are the same when listed like that.
here's some info from the police and dep. of transport in the uk. it doesn't necc. mean you need to have proof, but...insurance may require it. it's in your best interest to have it done as the coppers say, it will be checked if they suspect anything.
from Police:
The law is:
With the Category A2 license you are entitled to ride a motorcycle up to 25kW (33 bhp) and a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.16kw/kg.
There is no restriction on engine size (cc) so you can ride a bike bigger than a 125cc. There are plenty of bikes around in the 125cc to 400cc range that produce no more than 25kW (33bhp), the VFR 400 isn't one of them though. You (or your son) can still ride a bike with a power output over 25kW but you'll need a restrictor kit on it to restrict the power output to 25kW. Any good motorcycle mechanic will fit a restrictor for you and give you the necessary documentation. Your insurance could more as some insurance companies tend to disregard restrictors.
The reality of practical policing is that I would only expect an officer who is qualified as a vehicle inspector to ultimately enforce this legislation. Even with a certificate if there were a suggestion that the bike may not be restricted (because of the speed it was travelling at for instance) we could still demand for it to be examined. If the vehicle were involved in a serious collision as a senior investigator I would always go by the evidence of a collision investigator rather than your certificate.
My advice is to get the vehicle checked out if it's not restricted get a kit fitted as per the above. If a kit is fitted go may need to speak to the "good motorcycle mechanic" who should advise to have the power output at the rear wheel check on a calibrated dyno when again a certificate would be issued.
If it of any reassurance I've hardly ever come across this as an issue - do things by the book and you will have no problems. I would further advise that you son carries around the 33BHP documentation in his jacket should he ever be challenged by my colleagues!
from D.O.T
THIS IS HOW THE LAW STANDS RE 25 KW/33 BHP (Confirmed )
I have just had this e mail come through from the dept of transport !!!!
"Dear Peter
Thank you for your email of 9 September 2011 regarding the restrictor fitted to your stepson’s motorbike.
The law does not require written proof of the bike’s power limit, however you should satisfy yourself that it is correctly restricted before it is ridden. This can be done using a dyno or by obtaining a certification from the installer. If the bike is to be used for a driving test, you should check with the Driving Standards Agency beforehand that it is acceptable.
Yours sincerely
Robert Lloyd Smith
Department for Transport
International Vehicle Standards Division
So, basically, if you take them out and they suspect anything, then you will have the bike tested, but the likelyhood is slim, so the risk is yours! and the copper advises keeping the cert/dyno with you. but at the end of the day it's your responsibility to get it checked. nice and clear isnt it!
