Hi, joined this form as i have just purchased a fzr for the track. There is a problem with reving and im hopeing some one can help shed some light on it. The bike starts up 1st time with the choke on. You can rev with the choke on and it will go to full revs (not as quickly as it should). as soon as i take the choke off it dies. The exhast has several holes in it which may be causeing back pressure. I am in the processs of sourceing a replacement. Does this sound like it could be the problem? What is the purpose of the exup valves and how do you go about testing them? Could this also be creating the problem. Thanks in advance
John

J,
welcome before any one can give you the right advice you need to put your location in your personal profile.
Yamaha sold the FZR all over the world but they are NOT the bike in detail within the year for another part of the world (a 92 UK model is a 91 US model ) and that various bit change depending on the road laws of the market it was going to. You get the idea.
The FZR engine hates being cold and will jump/ hesitate when riding if the choke (enrichening fuel circuit) is not used until she feels thoroughly warmed up.
Holes in the pipes are always bad news and should be welded closed until the running is fixed, then you can go out and buy new pipes (may I suggest Delkvic stainless pipes which are very reasonable in price )
There is I believe an explanation in the WIKI about the EXUP and what it does to help the engine achieve its full potential.
