On your truck? RV? Personal Watercraft?
Just kidding (kinda)... a few more details would help us all to help you (model year at least).
Speedo is mechanical (cable driven), tach is electronic, so it is kind of weird that BOTH fail.

speedo died first. and tach hasnt died really its just acting weird. its very jumpy and when you rev it, it only stays on the 2000 to 4000 rpm mark. Riding it feels fine, engine isnt acting up or anything. Any suggestions?

Speedo - pull the cable connectors top and bottom, give the exposed (square) drive cable a tug at both ends. I'll bet you a bottle of Keith's you come away with a little stub at one end

. Replace the speedo drive cable.
Tach - the tach is electronic, driven by pulses from the 2-3 coil -ve wire. It has 3 wires going to it - +12v, gnd, and signal. If any of those three wires have a crappy connection, you'll get a messed-up reading. (That the bike runs smoothly suggests it ain't the black box

)
Good luck!
