Hey I have 35W headlights on my FZR400 and one just blew. I was wondering what the most powerful bulb I can replace it with is. I heard 2 65watt ones is too much. Anybody have any ideas?

Listing where you are and which model headlight would help. In the US, the bulbs are H4 formats and you can use the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs which are 55 watt. If it is a 1WG with the twin headlights, the same bulbs should work even in the UK. But if you have the twin projector beam light, you might be stuck with 35 watt bulbs. Best thing to do is figure out what the bulb socket type is, H1, H2, H3, or H4. Then you can go to a manufactures website to see what they have in that size. Most companies offer many different types for each socket type.

Go with the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. Huge improvement over the others.

Also be careful what type of H4's they are. My 88 3en1 fzr400 jap import had p45 h4's which have a different mounting to the standard H4's and are a PITA to get bulbs for. I ended up doing what these guys recommend link

On the left, you can see the H4 bulb, and at the top you can see the P45 bulb (part of it) with its "collar" removed and on the right. The challenge was to remove the collars from both bulbs and attach the P45 collar to the H4 bulb.

Hi,
I've done this a lot on Yamaha Bikes when "upgrading" the poorer lit bikes.
The standard yamaha "ring" bulbs are soldered in place as are the H4 rings it is just amatter of doing as the Bug guy did with a flame or as I did with a big wattage soldering iron & "solder wick" (copper wire in a woven mat like earth shielding on co-ax)

I will add the relevent material to the WIKI later as I am sure others will need this sooner or later.
