my mechanic says he's having a difficult time sync-ing my carb for the sweet spot. we have it jetted, kerker made for the fzr400, ontario headers, and k&n pods. I was just wondering if anybody ran into this problem and if you can give us a tip in which settings is ideal. the bike is a 89 fzr400.

I have been told by a former FZR 400 racer, a stock motor can NOT be tuned to run with pods.
Yes, you can get it to run with pods.
However, you wont be able to tune the air/fuel across the RPM range.

Like Xian said,about 'stock motor' is true. If you had cams and really good headwork it might be capable of outflowing the airbox, but this bike was engineered to have a large volume airbox. At the time these bikes came out it was about the only thing out there with a large airbox. It depends on it. Dynojet and factory pro are guilty of using fairly generic instructions. That pod recommendation is a holdover from the days of upright cylinders and carbs behind the motor and tiny restrictive airboxes that weren't 'tuned' for beneficial resonance.
Use a K&N drop-in....you'll probably like it better.

Yeah, ReelRazor makes a good point that I agree with 100%. That statement that you HAVE to runs pods with a stage 3 kit is pretty irrelevant when it comes these bikes. Stick with the air box and you'll have a much better time with it.
