Hi guys ,
i am looking at buying an older model fzr400 . Approx 1989
it looks ok but has 88,000 kms on the clock . What are these motors like at that sort of kms ???
What are the bads points of the fzr ?? Are there any usual nasties I should be looking out for ???
it only has to last 12 months or so but I can't afford to have an engine blow up or a major drama in that time
so any info would be a great help .
its an old bike and I know I will have to spend money on it but I don't want to have to spend the value of the bike
because its past its used by date
thanks in advance
Russ

Make sure it starts easily and ask when the valve tolerances were done. This is the biggest thing with a 400 because they're quite a high revving engine.
After that it's an older bike listen to the engine, check the bearings, look at the wear in the chain, sprockets, tyres, and brake pads

Check the voltage across the battery terminals at 3k rpm.
