Hi all im ollie
iv been lurking in the background or a while now but have recently brought myself a FZR400R 1WG project bike, after owning a VFR400 NC30 i jumped at the chance to have another pocket rocket
now my poor 1wg has seen better days the wiring has been chopped and sliced and she’s been down the road more than once
but the reason im here asking for help is she just wont start, iv downloaded the manual ( although its is for US spec bikes unsure exactly what model ) and im working through the ignition trouble shooting section but im having a couple of issues.
so lets start with the basic problem - ign = on and i get my green neutral light no other lights, i press start and NOTHING except the oil light comes on??
iv done some testing main switch and kill switch are ok .
the battery is ok .
the starter solenoid is ok .
the starter is ok .
side stand switch is dead but i have linked this out .
my fuel pump was showing a closed circuit across the terminals with no resistance - this has been replaced but i wouldn’t of thought this to be the cause, just another problem .
now i have read up that the relays on these can be a pain unfortunately with the wiring loom being tempered with ( cant even find the main fuse!!) and the manual being for US bikes and i not sure specifically for the 1wg im having trouble identifying which relay is which and what one is most likely to be my problem.
im currently unable to find the clutch cut off relay, starting circuit cut off relay, diode block, digital ignitor unit and fuel pump relay :S
any help advice or even a nudge in the right direction would be great
Thanks in advance Ollie

Side stand switch? A lot of times these are taken off and the two wires are just wired together to bypass the switch. Normally down by the lower part of the engine, left side. Also done right at the cdi occasionally. If this circuit isn't closed the bike will behave the way you are describing.

Re: 1WG non-runner HELP!
Do you know which model bike you have - it's probably on the cdi but a rule of thumb is :
No air intakes - Genesis model
No air intakes adjustable suspension and exup - 2TK fzr400R SP
Air intakes above the headlights - 3EN1
Air intakes below the headlights - 3EN2
Firstly, you have no ignition light .... the red oil light should come on it acts as an ignition light when the engine isn't running. I had a 3en2 which wouldn't start on the button but would bump start - try that
Have a look for the big diode block it was on the rear left of my 3en2, one of the wires was broken (dark blue) which is why it didn't start. The clutch is a simple switch just under the lever it just closes the circuit, it works with the neutral light switch, and side stand kill switch.
The fuel pump should prime a ticking noise - if yours isn't then there could be a wiring fault there although the bike should still turn over.
Finally - if the loom has been hacked about then consider buying another it's much easier than chasing a fault through it.
