FZR fairing compatibility between models

First post.

Just wondering if FZR 3tj or later tail piece will fit a WG1. I'm wanting to modernise that big ugly tail without having to try and chop up an R1 tail or similar.

I know most side and front fairings aren't interchangeable between models but what about the tail?

Any help much appreciated

It depends which 1wg you mean ? There 4 types in the UK and another in the US
The 3tj's frame has a big triangular part that supports the saddle and the subframe is a bit shorter. The nearest style rear would be the 3en1. It would work with the fuel tank shroud and fairings too. You see the design of the tail will use lines from both the fairing and tank, just sticking a tail from another bike (especially the R1 / R6) usually looks rubbish.
If you want to improve your bike firstly look at the tyres then suspension and brakes. You could take the front end from a later 600 and put it on your bike

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I was only looking at another FZR tail. The R6 and Rd tails do look good in my opinion but getting them installed correctly is more work than I am able to do competently myself.

The tail from the 3en1 is nicer than mine and would be a nice upgrade. Will it fit straight onto my bike or require modification. If so, how much modification?

I am not sure what model WG1 mine is. It is registered 89 and I live in Auckland, New Zealand.

I have pictures but not able to attach on this forum??

Cheers again.
