FZRSupport: the FZROnline Archive

Firstly Hi, although not new to the forum this is my first post, finally decided after far too much stalking of these forums to buy an FZR400 1WG.

Now I'm chuffed to pieces with it but I have an issue which has baffled me, essentially on both sides of the engine casing there is a small hole, on the cylinder in between the fins/ grills? I've no idea why it's there but I do know on the clutch side while the bike is running it leaks oil and it also seems water?! I've googled this and found nothing, I'm aware this doesn't look good and I am hoping it isn't something enough to write off the engine.

While I'm on the issue of problems I've noticed a rattling noise which I've pinpointed to the exup valve, upon removing the casing and pushing the part which the cables attach to the noise subsides?

If anyone has any info to help me out with this I would be most obliged.

The holes you are talking about are there to allow any water/oil that gathers in the valley that the spark plugs are in, to drain. It is normal for rain to let water into that space-it drains and no problem. If you are seeing oil from there,you likely have a valve cover leak. This is a bit of work and a $30 gasket to fix.

The exup rattle is well documented, search of this site will get you to detailed fixes for that

Make sure those holes aren't blocked in anyway, if they are or they're gummed up water will collect in the spark plug well causing the plug to corrode.

Adjust the exup pulley - put a pin or bolt through the 2 prongs into the hole in the casing behind. Look at the cables up top near the servo motor and find the adjusters. Undo and then take up the slack in the cables, finger tight only. Take out the pin, turn on the ignition and check the exup opens and returns to the same place.

There's a model designation on the cdi sticker for a 1WG exup it will be 2TK, 3EN1 or 3EN2
